How To Look Hot When Your Cold

Crap, the holidays are over and you're bummed out.  How about some retail therapy?  When you're catching those extending holiday or new year sales, here are a few key items you should add to your closet to keep you current:

1) A blazer with padded shoulders.

Yep there back.  If you're a teen of the 80s you'll remember this trend when you look back at your collection of embarrassing photos that in in a secret place.  It always leaves me wondering what I was smoking when I wore that....but this time shoulders are even bolder and almost pointed (kind of like a Star Trek uniform), but hey now it's the newer generations turn to be a knob and you can sit back and watch.  I might go for a more french trend of cinched waist coat, that gives you that sexy silhouette that is a little more classic.

Kind of like: Topshop's Short Jersey Shoulder Blazer (65.00 pounds)

2) Metal Clothing.

I actually like this trend.  It seems so.... well....2010 doesn't it?  Silver, gold, copper, it's all good.  If you're color can be mistaken for currency then you've got it.

We suggest: Balenciaga F/W 09/10 Collection-it's expensive but it's absolutely gorgeous!  If that's a bit too much for you then American Apparel has a wide range of metallic colored clothes.  We like the Shiny Late Night Mini Skirt ($32US/36CDN)

3) A Shaggy Coat or Vest

I LOVE this trend.  Something about looking like a Yeti is kind of cool, not to mention it keeps you warm-so it's functional and a little different.  Best part is, you'll see them in a lot of colors this season, so don't worry about being mistaken for a big white mammoth.

Kind of Like: Forever 21's Urban Faux Fur Vest ($24.80) or French Connections Big Foot Coat ($148.80)

4) A Leather something

So primitive, so sexy.  Leather pants, tops, jackets and boots are everywhere.  So unleash that inner sexy beast and get something skin tight.  If you're not sure how to wear it, leather leggings look great with a chunky knit sweater,  or even just wear you skinny jeans from fall with a leather jacket.

We suggest: If your in NYC go to the Leather Rose on East Ninth Street.  They custom make leather pants for you (starting at $800).  If you're looking for a throw away pair, Aldo has a pair of shiny faux leather leggings for $20.

5) Military pants or top

Remember Micheal Jackson back in his hey day with that red military jacket?  That's what we're talking about.  They look great with a pair of ripped jeans so it's just the right amount of conformity with a hint of trouble.

We suggest: Aqua Wool Military Jacket ($98 US available at Bloomingdales)

6) A One shoulder Top or Dress

Shoulders in general are an emphasis this season, so if the bold shoulder blazer isn't your thing-this is your answer!

We suggest: D&G Duchesse Satin One Shoulder Dress ($495 available at Nordstroms) or try H and M they have lots of them!
