Fall fashion preview

With fall fashions already being made available to the savvy fashion forward shopper, we thought we'd give you a heads up on the hot trends for fall 2009 fashion.

The Colors

Black, black and more black, but really folks, does black ever go out of style? Maybe it's the recession, maybe it's the flattering nature of the color (it hides alot!), but if it's black, it's in style baby.  Other colors that were predominant on the runways-white, metallic and charcoal greys, black and white, mauves, coffee brown, reds and metallic golds and silvers.

The Patterns

Majority of patterns this year were solid colors, like we said, alot of black and white.   This season is definitely more about the texture than it is about patterns.  The patterns that we did see were definitely a bit more understated and consisted of polka dots, understated animal prints, brocade, subtle plaids and more mod like patterns.

The Cuts

The majority of clothes are quite fitted and geometric in nature.  Jackets have padded shoulders or angular in nature, some were even belted to further define shape.   Tops are either geometrically cutout with dense fabrics or oversized with a draping nature or puffy sleeves.  Dresses were short and generally belted, tunics are still in, along with leggings. Skirts were either hip hugging short with a loose bottom or knee length and pencil thin.  Pants are still quite fitted, with leggings still being in, just in heavier fabrics, but the odd semi-wide pant popped up as well.

The Textures

Leather was everywhere, as was wool (especially in suits).  Metallic lightweight materials, and gold highlighting was noted in a few of collections, as was suede and simple ruffles and fraying.

One of our favorite collections, was by the duo Evan and Dean (www.evananddean.com).    We loved it for the glorious and intricate textures and attention to detail.  The cuts, colors and patterns are dead on for this fall season.  Our favorite pieces were the Zenobia Ruff Dress (flattering on just about anyone) and the Domina Dress (which will make you the center of attention).  Both show the craftsmanship, attention to detail and glorious texture that just scream Fall 2009 Must Have.

Next month, we'll go over the accessories and shoes that will go perfectly with your new fall wardrobe!
