The Eyes Have It ~ What's Hot For Summer 2009

If you're wanting to get ahead of the curve this year, we thought we'd give you a heads up on what's hot for summer.  Luckily spring and summer have some common threads, so don't throw out those spring collections just yet ladies-this year you'll be getting more bang for your buck!

SKIN

This summer (like spring) is all about tanned skin.  Unlike summers past, this year we're talking more about a subtle natural looking tan, like you've spent a little time on the beach and got some color-not the burnt crisp bahama mama look from years past.  Make sure you use a light foundation that gives you a delicate shine finish-so skin looks flawless and healthy, but subtle and barely there!  We would suggest a tinted moisturizer for most skin types, but if you have oily skin, go for a fine powder foundation.

EYES

For all the summer lines and shows, eye color was the main focus.  Either it was soft and neutral (almost barely there), or there was an intense splash of color. If your going soft and neutral, pair it with some wonderful intense mascara. If your going for intense color, tone the mascara (and lips) down.  We saw some beautiful metallics on some of the haute couture shows-golden smokey eyes, copper highlighted eyes, even some metallics on lips, but if your not a metallic fan, there still is plenty of color to choose from.  Bright colors are all the rage this summer-vibrant blues, violets and greens were the most common.  Please remember though, don't just smear it all over your upper lids, a little will do the trick, and keep you chic.  Pair it with a black mascara and pronounce lower lid eyeliner to be looking very stylish this season. Another way to add some color to your eyes is some heavy eyeliner on the upper and lower lids-this was done at alot of the shows.  If your not into heavy liner, then just do a simple (but subtle) cat eye on the upper lid in a color of your choice-still fab.

LIPS

Lips this season are still glossy, but subtle glossy, with just a hint of shine.  The most popular color we've seen this season is definitely pink.  A close second was varying shades of purple.  For day, more flesh tone gloss in natural colors are the way to go, for night go with a deeper more pronounced lipstick with an intense pink or purple.

CHEEKS

In tune with the trends for skin, blush is very subtle this year, it's more about gently contouring and highlighting your natural facial structure (and complimented your tanned skin).  Colors are flesh tones (pinks, oranges and chocolates), so it's subtle but flattering, highlighting your natural undertones.

BROWS

Eyebrows this season are a little more pronounced.  I think it has to do with the whole natural feel for this years makeup, so a thicker more natural looking (and not manicured) brow is the perfect compliment for your healthy tan.
